January 18, 1986 - In a star-studded Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., Navy running back and future College Football Hall of Famer Napoleon McCallum led the North to a 31-17 victory over the South. The North claimed a 7-3 halftime lead behind an 11-yard touchdown pass from Maryland's Mark Rypien to McCallum and the defensive prowess of Western Michigan linebacker John Offerdahl, who stuffed Auburn running back and future College Football Hall of Famer Bo Jackson twice on a goal line stand in the second quarter. Fellow future College Football Hall of Famers Rueben Mayes of Washington State and Tim Green of Syracuse joined McCallum on the North side, while 2009 College Football Hall of Fame inductee Pat Swilling of Georgia Tech joined Jackson on the South squad. Rypien, who was named the North's most outstanding offensive player, fired three touchdown passes in the second half to blow the game open for head coach Dan Reeves of the Denver Broncos in leading the North to victory.
