NFF board member and College Football Hall of Famer Troy Aikman headlines the 2010 Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame class which also includes Oklahoma defensive tackle Rick Bryan, who passed away last year. 2009 College Football Hall of Fame inductee Woodrow Lowe spoke during the “Keeping the Dream Alive” program in Mobile in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. College Football Hall of Fame coach Dick MacPherson has been named the grand marshal of the Syracuse St. Patrick’s Day Parade. 2009 William V. Campbell Trophy recipient and former Florida quarterback Tim Tebow will be featured in a Super Bowl ad during the game on February 7. 2009 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Colt McCoy (Texas) was named the recipient of the Manning Award as the nation’s best college quarterback. Bob Johnson (Tennessee) joined the National Scholar-Athlete Alumni Association. Warner’s position coach and current Penn State Associate Athletics Director for Football Operations, Fran Ganter, was in attendance. The chapter gave $15,000 in in scholarships to six graduating high school football players. Seventy-three football scholar-athletes have been nominated to receive scholarships and recognition by the NFF Wyoming Chapter. The finalists will be recognized at the chapter’s awards banquet on March 20th in Laramie. Former Wyoming and Purdue coach Joe Tiller will be the keynote speaker. Ithaca College defensive tackle Kyle Scharles has been named the NFF Southern Tier (N.Y.) Chapter’s scholar-athlete winner. He will be honored at the chapter awards banquet on January 31. Northwestern added Central Michigan to its 2010 schedule… The Marshall at Ohio State contest has been moved to Sept. 2. Lane Kiffin was named the new coach at Southern California… Derek Dooley, son of College Football Hall of Fame coach Vince Dooley, accepted the head coach position at Tennessee… Al Groh joined Paul Johnson’s staff at Georgia Tech as defensive coordinator… California hired Jeff Genyk as its special team coordinator and tight ends coach… Mississippi State named Manny Diaz defensive coordinator and linebackers coach and Chris Wilson defensive line coach… NFF Dallas Gridiron Club president Mark Ball is the new Lubbock (Texas) ISD Executive Director of Athletics… Charlie Stubbs has been named Nicholls (La.) head coach… Dan Enos has been named the new head coach at Central Michigan… Mississippi Valley State named Karl Morgan its new head coach... Vic Viloria will join Jimbo Fisher’s staff at Florida State as head strength coach… Curt Mallory was named Akron’s defensive coordinator… UTEP named Andre Patterson defensive coordinator… James Willis has been named the new defensive coordinator at Texas Tech. The Black College Football Hall of Fame announced its inaugural class of eight players, two coaches and a journalist. The class is made up of nine College Football Hall of Famers including: Buck Buchanan (Grambling State); Will Galimore (Florida A&M); Willie Lanier (Morgan State); Walter Payton (Jacksonville State); Jerry Rice (Mississippi Valley State); Ben Stevenson (Tuskegee); Paul Younger (Grambling State); Alonzo Gaither (Florida A&M) and Eddie Robinson (Grambling State)… Fordham University Athletic Hall of Fame’s 2010 class includes former players Javarus Dudley, Kevin Eakin and Kirwin Watson… MEAC’s 2010 Hall of Fame class includes Rickey Anderson (South Carolina State), Jacquay Nunnally (Florida A&M) and Ted White (Howard) … The Fellowship of Christian Athletes has selected University of Mississippi Head Football Coach Houston Nutt as the recipient of the 2009 FCA Grant Teaff Coach of the Year Award… Ndamukong Suh claimed the Guy Chamberlin Trophy, named for the two-way Hall of Famer who played for the Cornhuskers from 1911-1915… The Bell Helipoter Armed Forces Bowl named its MVP player award, The Starr MVP Award, in honor of former executive director Tom Starr. ESPN is set to launch a new sports information site, ESPNDB.com, which the network hopes will serve as a sports encyclopedia-archive-statistical compendium… SBNation.com features over 200 blogs covering mainstream sports such as football to mixed martial arts… 40,000 fans showed up at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday to celebrate Alabama’s first national championship since 1992… College Football Hall of Famer Herschel Walker (Georgia) will make his MMA fight debut on Jan. 30 in Sunrise, Fla… The 2009-10 bowl games drew 1.77 million fans, up slightly from last year’s attendance… The Alabama-Texas game drew the largest TV audience, picking up 30.8 million viewers. The total is the highest rated title game since 2006… According to a survey by the AFCA, 73 percent of the 120 FBS coaches prefer the BCS format… Michigan State unveiled the MSU Spartans iPhone application… Indiana athletics launched YouTube, Facebook and Twitter pages… Texas is hosting the 10th annual “Dine with a Coach” event on Feb. 1 at Darrell K.
