Our Chapter supports the objectives of The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame by encouraging nominations for our scholar-athlete awards dinner held each year in February. Since 1960, we have honored high school seniors, from the twelve San Francisco Bay Area counties, who have distinguished themselves on the football field, in the classroom, and in activities that display leadership abilities. Each year, twenty-four outstanding young men are awarded $1,000 scholarships to assist with their college education. To date, a total of $552,000 has been awarded to students in Northern California. We are proud that we are investing our time and energy in the future leaders of our country and that their success makes our communities and our nation a better place to live. The 2004-2005 awards ceremony will be held at the San Francisco Airport Marriott Hotel on February 17th, 2005. We often have many important Bay Area football personalities in attendance, and in addition to the student honorees, we honor distinguished individuals for their contribution to football and to their communities. If you are interested in attending, please visit the Chapter's website www.footballfoundation-norcal.com for more information. Each year, our Chapter, in conjunction with the San Francisco 49ers, conducts an annual NFL/NFF Coaching Academy to elevate the quality of coaching at high school and youth levels throughout Northern California. Our Chapter was one of the first to conduct an NFL/NFF Coaching Academy, which was filmed by the N.F.L. for promotional purposes throughout the country. We are proud to be involved in this partnership to promote football, providing training for coaches and making them more competent as they work with young football players throughout Northern California. The Northern California Chapter also supports The National Football Foundation’s signature program, Play It Smart, at four San Francisco Bay Area high schools: South San Francisco High School, Concord High School, Galileo High School in San Francisco, and Carlmont High School in Belmont.
