Nothing smells of success like continuity— and that’s what the Nassau County Chapter is all about. Endorsing The National Football Foundation’s mission since its inception, the chapter has generated large amounts of local involvement. Chapter President Len Genova and its 100 members have invigorated Nassau County with new and exciting events along with time-honored ones.
The Nassau County Chapter annually holds their Scholar-Athlete Banquet in December. There, they honor student-athletes who have succeeded athletically and academically. The chapter distributes $7,000 each year in scholarship monies for the scholar-athletes. Additionally, the Nassau County Chapter presents a variety awards – a Top Scholar-Athlete Award, a Golden Eleven Award, and a Contribution to Amateur Athletics Award. Out of the 106 high schools located in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, there are four classifications, based on school enrollment, that divide these schools into competing All-Star teams. The National Football Foundation Chapters in Nassau and Suffolk Counties sponsor two games— large school vs. large school (Nassau vs. Suffolk) and small school vs. small school (Nassau vs. Suffolk). One game is held the night before Thanksgiving at Hofstra University and the other is held on Thanksgiving morning at Stony Brook University. Both games are televised on local cable television. The Nassau County Chapter holds an annual golf outing each spring for all of its members, usually in April. The chapter will also open an NFF Long Island Hall of Fame in conjunction with the Suffolk County Chapter, honoring those who have played or mentored in the community.
