Member Biography

Remembered as one of Coach Vince Dooleys best players, Jake Scott only wore the Georgia Bulldog uniform for two seasons. Due to an injury he missed all of the 1966 season. Dooley picked Scott as the greatest player he has ever coached because Scott was the most gifted all-around athlete combined with the love and determination to play the game. Scott intercepted 16 passes and had 315 return yards in his two seasons in Athens. Both are Georgia career records. As a junior, Scott picked off ten passes in route to an SEC Player of the Year Award and a Georgia SEC title. During that 1968 season, Scott led the SEC in punt returns and punt return yardage. Scott is one of three players in SEC history to return two interceptions for touchdowns in the same game and he was named a First-Team Academic All-SEC performer as a sophomore. Jake led the SEC in interceptions each of his two varsity seasons. Scott bypassed his senior campaign to play for the British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League. Scott played one season in Canada and then was drafted by the Miami Dolphins. In 1972, he was named MVP of Super Bowl VII. Scott is the 12th Georgia player to be inducted in the College Football Hall of Fame. Jake is retired and lives in Hanalei, Hawaii.
