Member BiographyGreg Pruitt, running back for Oklahoma, was unanimous All-America in 1971 and 1972. The Touchdown Club of Washington D. C. named him Player of the Year in 1972. He finished third in Heisman Trophy voting in 1971, second in 1972.
In 1971, he led the nation in average yards gained in rushing plays. His average was 9.4 yards. His career average was 7.6 yards on 375 carries.
His biggest games were 294 yards against Kansas State, 216 against Texas, and 205 against Southern California--all in 1971.
His other career averages were 13.9 yards on punt returns and 19.9 on kickoff returns. He scored 38 touchdowns in 33 regular-season games.
In the 1970 Bluebonnet Bowl, Oklahoma tied Alabama 24-24. Pruitt rushed eight times for 97 yards, returned three kickoffs for 71 yards, had touchdown runs of 58 and 25, and was named Most Valuable Player. In 1972, he was Academic All-Conference in the Big Eight.
He played 12 years in the NFL, 1973-84, with Cleveland and Oakland.
