Member Biography

Ed White had a long association with the city of San Diego. He played high school football there. The school has named the football field for him. He had a 17-year pro career, some years with Minnesota and some with San Diego. He became an assistant coach at the college level, and he was on the staff at San Diego State. And in 1996, the San Diego chapter of the National Football Foundation gave White the Tom Hamilton Achievement Award. White was a middle guard who lettered three years at California, made all-Pac 10 Conference three times, and made All-America in 1968. In 1968, he anchored a California defense that allowed only five rushing touchdowns in 11 games. At California he won the Brick Muller Award, given to the school's best lineman, in 1967 and 1968. In 1997 he returned to California as a member of the coaching staff.
