Member BiographyThe year 1969 was a great one for the Boston University Terriers
and Bruce Taylor. The Terriers had a 9-1 record in the regular
season and accepted a bid to the Pasadena Bowl. (They lost 28-7
to San Diego State.) Taylor played defensive back and punt
returner. He scored four times on punt returns of 100, 72, 64,
and 56 yards. He made six touchdowns all told and led his team
in scoring with 36 points.
He returned 26 punts for 527 yards, an average of 20.3 per return.
This was the best punt return record in the nation. He played in
the East-West Shrine Game. The New England Football Writers
Association named him the outstanding senior player in
Taylor,5-11, 185 pounds, made divisional All-America in
both 1968 and 1969. He played 8 years with San Francisco in the
National Football League and in 1970 was named Rookie of the
Year by the Sporting News and by United Press International.
Taylor also starred in baseball for Boston University and was
drafted by the Baltimore Orioles.
