Member Biography

Honors piled up for Joe Palumbo, playing middle guard for Virginia, in 1951. He made All-America. The Touchdown Club of Washington D. C. gave him the Outstanding Defensive Lineman Award. He was named Athlete of the Year in the State of Virginia. He was Virginia's captain and recorded an 8-1 season. During his three varsity years, Virginia was 23-5 and had seven shutouts. His jersey, No. 48, was retired by Virginia. Palumbo served in the U. S. Army in 1952. He settled in Charlottesville, VA, working in the insurance industry and seeing heavy duty as a fund raiser for his alma mater.
