Member BiographyBilly Kilmer played tailback in UCLA's single-wing formation. In 1960 he was in 163 rushing plays, threw 129 passes, and punted 35 times. This was a total of 347 plays in 10 games. Kilmer led the nation in total offense (1,869 yards), was fifth in punting average (42.3), seventh in rushing, and 19th in scoring.
He ran for eight touchdowns and passed for eight. The Associated Press named him Back of the Week twice, and he was All-America. After the 1960 season he was chosen to play in the East-West Shrine Game and the Hula Bowl. In August 1961 he was in the College All-Star Game and was named most valuable player.
He made an 88-yard run against the Air Force Academy in 1960. UCLA had a 15-12-3 record in his three years.
Kilmer went into pro football and lasted 18 years, 1961-78 with San Francisco, New Orleans, and Washington.
