Member Biography
When Don Heinrich played quarterback for smallish
Bremerton High (a suburb of Seattle), he was good enough to
carry the team on his back...right to the State Championship.
The highly sought-after, 6-0, 180-pound quarterback then
decided to stay right at home and enrolled at the University of
Washington. Heinrich led the nation in passing in 1950 and
1952, and was named to the Associated Press All-America
teams both years. (He missed the 1951 season with an injury.)
He finished his Washington career with 4,392 yards passing
and 33 touchdowns. After serving 21 months in the U.S.
Army, Don played professional football for the New York
Giants and the Dallas Cowboys. After his playing career he
spent time on the coaching staffs of the Giants, Los Angeles
Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints and San
Francisco 49ers. During this period, the gifted Heinrich did
some radio and TV work. This led to a full time career in
broadcasting. He died February 29, 1992, at age 61.
