NOTES

-Alabama strengthened its grip on the top spot in the poll, garnering all 48 first-place votes. But there was some major reshuffling behind the unbeaten Crimson Tide after previously unbeaten and No. 2 Clemson was upset at unranked Syracuse and Washington and Washington State both lost road games to unranked teams.

-The SEC's unbeaten Georgia moved into the No. 2 slot and Clemson fell all the way to seventh. Washington tumbled to 11th and Washington State fell to 14th. Auburn fell completely out of the poll after losing at LSU and was replaced by Virginia Tech. Penn State held at the No. 3 spot for a second straight week. TCU assumed the fourth spot.

-The Big Ten led all conferences with four teams, followed by the ACC, Big 12 and Pac-12 with three each. The SEC had two teams in the poll. Notre Dame was the lone independent.

This Week's Key Games:
Tennessee at No. 1 Alabama; No.16 Michigan at No. 3 Penn State; Kansas at No. 4 TCU; Maryland at No. 5 Wisconsin; No. 8 Oklahoma at Kansas State; Syracuse at No. 9 Miami (Fla.); No. 10 Oklahoma State at Texas; No. 12 USC at No. 13 Notre Dame; Colorado at No. 14 Washington State; No. 15 Virginia Tech at North Carolina.

ABOUT THE FWAA-NFF SUPER 16 POLL: The FWAA-NFF Super 16 Poll was established at the conclusion of the 2013 season by long-time partners, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and the National Football Foundation (NFF). Voters rank the top 16 teams in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, and the results will be released every Sunday of the 2017 season; the individual votes of all members will also be made public. The first poll was released Tuesday, Sept. 5 (to account for Labor Day games), and the final poll will be released Dec. 3. The pollsters consist of FWAA writers and College Football Hall of Famers who were selected to create a balanced-geographical perspective. The poll utilizes a program designed by Sports Systems to compile the rankings
