2010 NFF Rhode Island Scholar-Athletes Selected

The 23rd Annual Awards Dinner of the Rhode Island Chapter of the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame will be held on Monday, May 3, 2010 at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick, Rhode Island. The event begins at 7:00 pm.

Twenty three outstanding football players will be honored that evening with 12 selected from the group as members of the Golden -Dozen.

Three special awards will also be presented that evening. General James Dunn who served in the Rhode Island National Guard and also was the Head Football Coach at Smithfield High School for over 30 years will receive the chapter's Distinguished American Award.

John Gillooly sportswriter for the Providence Journal an original member of the executive board of the Rhode Island Chapter will receive the Contribution to Amateur Football Award for his many years of service to the Foundation.

Edward "Bud " Conley a respected football official for his more than forty years of service to the youth of our State will receive a "Special Football Award."

The Rhode Island Chapter of the National Football Foundation has been in existence for the past 23 years and is dedicated to mobilizing the constructive forces of amateur football for the benefit of society as a whole. The chapter seeks to honor those student athletes who have excelled both academically and athletically and also to honor those individuals who have made a distinct contribution to the game and our society.

During the past 23 years, the chapter has recognized over 600 recipients and awarded $125,000 in scholarships. The 2010 Class of Rhode Island Chapter Scholar-Athletes includes:
